A flash of red nails — beautiful, fragile, fleeting — is the core of Martin Margiela’s ‘Red Nails Model’, a work that reflects artificial female beauty in the form of women’s crimson fingertips in the 1990s.

Part of his debut series as an artist, the “designer’s designer” returned to the public eye in 2021 with a highly anticipated exhibition where the ‘Red Nails Model’ series was first showcased. Held at the Foundation Galeries Lafayette, the presentation extended Margiela’s renown as a creative who consistently redefines aesthetics through his investigation of materials, shapes, and forms, including the crimson-red nails that seem close to tumbling like dominos.
