@rtfktstudios’ CLONE X collection in collaboration with @takashipom is a game-changer — these 20,000 3D rendered avatars are set to become the key to the NFT fashion startup’s Web3 ecosystem, and is a collection that further solidifies Murakami’s position as one the world’s most sought-after artists, IRL and in the metaverse.
Launched in November 2021, CLONE X was initially sold via dutch auction (a sales mechanism where prices are gradually reduced until a buyer is found). Channelling Murakami’s rich background in multimedia art to design eyes, mouths, helmets, and clothes, these 3D generative avatars can be used in yet-to-be-launched NFT games, AR filters, Zoom meetings, and the Metaverse.
More recently, Murakami’s newly opened exhibition “An Arrow Through History” at Gagosian New York features the artist’s NFT projects in VR for a digitally immersive experience, and Nike’s acquisition of RTFKT Studio in December last year has brought forth a new collection of customisable sneaker NFTs, aptly named CryotoKicks.

Taking digitally native art into the contemporary art space with its appearance at Venice Biennale’s first-ever NFT exhibition, @artblocks_io’s success as a generative art platform extends to beyond the metaverse.
Marrying traditional art with blockchain innovations, Art Blocks currently hosts over 99,000 NFTs under its umbrella, all brought to life with its generative script that allows collectors to interact, create, and mint randomised works that range from static images to 3D models or interactive experiences.
Thanks to its unique proposition, Art Blocks NFTs have skyrocketed in value: The most expensive piece sold was worth 2,100 ETH, equivalent to $7.12 million US dollars back in early October 2021. The second highest, valued at 1,800 ETH, is “Ringers #879” by artist @dmitricherniak, now on view at K11 MUSEA’s ‘METAVISION’ showcase.
