“Why can’t a dress be a chair?” With legwarmers shaped as vases and dresses blown up like 1960s inflatable chairs, we can’t help but smile at @celinekwan_’s whimsical, colourful blooming designs that capture her personal expression of joy — contagious enough to catch even the eyes of singer-songwriter Lizzo.
Inspired by her mother’s love of flowers, Kwan seeks to put a smile on everyone’s faces through her blossoming designs. The young designer participates in K11’s ‘The Love of Couture: Artisanship in Fashion Beyond Time’ as one of six emerging fashion designers crafting dedicated responses to the @vamuseum’s collection, developed by K11 in collaboration with the @vamuseum, Co-chaired by V&A Deputy Director and COO Tim Reeve and Production Designer William Chang Suk Ping (張叔平) @sukwill, with @ubs as title sponsor.

🪡♥️ K11 Invites 6 Trailblazing East Asian Designers
A cultural exchange from past to present, and from east to west, ‘The Love of Couture: Artisanship in Fashion Beyond Time’ invites 6 emerging East Asian fashion designers to construct bespoke responses to the @vamuseum’s collection of British and French womenswear.
Each creation assumes a deeply personal vision of each designer’s love of couture: sink into @tomokoizumi’s explosion of ruffles, bloom with @celinekwan_’s flowering gowns, venture to the otherworldly with @windowsen’s sweeping silhouettes, feel closer to nature with @ryunosuke.okazaki’s prayers for peace, marvel at Korean traditions with @miss_sohee’s delicate embroideries, fall for @_yueqiqi’s laser-cut embellishments of love.
‘The Love of Couture’ exhibition is a love letter to the enduring art of fashion from the 19th century to the present, developed by K11 in collaboration with the V&A, Co-chaired by V&A Deputy Director and COO Tim Reeve and Production Designer William Chang Suk Ping (張叔平), with @ubs as title sponsor.
